Ihram: The Sacred State

Entering the sacred state of pilgrimage.

Ihram is the sacred state a pilgrim enters before beginning 'Umrah or Hajj. It begins with the intention (niyyah) and the Talbiyah, and is marked for men by two simple unstitched white cloths.

This is a draft example. Edit or replace it in the admin, and have the content checked by someone knowledgeable.

Before Ihram, it is recommended to:

  • Trim the nails and remove unwanted hair
  • Perform ghusl (a full wash)
  • Wear the Ihram garments (for men)

Once in Ihram, the pilgrim recites the Talbiyah frequently.
